About
Built for the maktab that still runs on a paper register.
Most maktabs are run by volunteers and a handful of teachers, in a masjid hall after school. The register is on paper, the progress grid is on paper, and a parent finds out how their child is doing at the end of the year — if they ask.
Software that could help is usually priced for schools with a budget. A maktab rarely has one. So we turned the model round: the maktab pays nothing, parents pay a small monthly fee per child, and part of every fee goes back to the maktab.
Silsila is now in a pilot with a small number of maktabs, and it is being shaped by what their teachers and parents tell us.

What we hold ourselves to
Each maktab's data stays its own
Every maktab's data is kept separate. Its children, classes and material are never visible to another maktab.
Parental consent first
A parent's consent is recorded before any of their child's information is processed.
The teacher has the final say
Where AI suggests a mark, the teacher confirms or overrides it. Nothing reaches a parent without a teacher behind it.
Sensitive questions go to a person
The assistant answers from the syllabus. Anything sensitive is passed to the teacher instead of answered by software.
